My BookingLife: Mark Chard – DevOps Engineer

My BookingLife - Mark Chard DevOps Engineer

Mark joined our team as a DevOps Engineer in April 2021.

He is a self proclaimed petrol head and Bristolian through and through, Mark has worked in a number of local businesses. He is currently working across the entire business covering all things DevOps; managing our infrastructure, helping development teams with their pipelines and deployments and making improvements to our cloud infrastructure.

What was your first job?

“I left school at 16 and worked as a customer assistant at IKEA, loading flat pack furniture into customer’s cars!”

What advice would you give someone looking to move into your role?

Study computer sciences and pay specific attention to infrastructure as code structures

What’s the most exciting part of your job?

Most exciting aspect is that I am constantly learning new things – in the world of DevOps everything evolves so rapidly and there’s always new information to consume.

What’s something you find challenging about your work?

“Staying up to speed!”

What made you want to work at BookingLive?

We have such a friendly team, it’s a young company where people are challenged to develop and define their skills. We are given enough space to learn and provide the best possible infrastructure for our clients, leveraging the newest technologies available.

Tell us something about yourself that we won’t know.

Outside of work, I build engines. One of my cars is a Toyota MRS and we’ve stripped out a Celica engine and we’re rebuilding with a turbo and a 9:1 compression ratio giving the engine 400hp. We will be putting it into something that weighs less than ¾ a tonne.

I am also building a 1973 Lotus Elan as a track car that should qualify for the British muscle category.
